American Locomotive Comapny (ALCO) introduced the PA locomotive to directly compete with General Motors 'E' Series Passenger Service diesels. The PA matched the horsepower of the GM model, but it did it with a single motor instead of two used in the 'E' series. The ALCO PA styling was the result of an intracompany design contest won by Ray Stevenson. It has been frequently described as the most beautiful diesel to ever grace the rails. These locomotives will look great leading a passenger set around your layout!
